We infantry have the higest regard for the Boys in Blue that flew the Choppers but they always had this cocky attitude as if they knew the high regard we had for them. Thus the saying "Hey do you think you are a Chopper Pilot! / Dink jy jy is 'n Chopper Pilot!" originated for someone who thought he was a cut above the rest of us mere mortals.

"Vlamgat/ Flame arse" This is the nickname for our fighter pilots due to the use of afterburn to impress the troops on the ground, especially when flying at lower than treetop height across the Ovambo countryside. Another nickname I heard was "Blaasflam Jokkie" literaly meaning Blowtorch Jockey, quite descriptive as well.
